Linking items
Every piece of gear has an item code. Use it to show a piece to other players in chat or in a message without typing out its stats. The recipient sees the piece as a chip and can look at the stats.
The item code
An item code is I- followed by five characters, for example I-K7X4M. Upper and lower case do not matter. The characters 0, O, 1, I and L never appear, so nothing gets mixed up.
The code belongs to the individual piece, not to its type. Two Flame Amulets have two different codes. When a piece is salvaged, its code is gone. When a piece is sold on the marketplace, it keeps its code.
You find the code in a piece's detail window, below the line that says where the piece currently is.
Linking an item
There are three ways.

Share in chat opens the chat and puts the code into the input. Write your text before or after it and send the message. Copy puts the code on the clipboard, for example for a message in the mailbox.
You can also type or paste the code by hand. That includes codes someone sent you outside the game.
How the item is shown
As soon as the message arrives, the code in the text becomes a chip: icon, name and level of the piece in the colour of its rarity. The rest of the message stays plain text.
If the piece is currently on the marketplace, the chip also shows the marketplace symbol in front of the icon.
If the piece no longer exists because it was salvaged, the code simply stays as text. A mistyped code is shown as text as well.
The preview
The chip gives you the stats.
- On desktop: Hover the chip and the preview appears. Click the chip to keep it open. A click elsewhere or Escape closes it.
- On mobile: Tap the chip and the preview opens as a window.
The preview shows name, rarity, type, level, all stats, the owner and where the piece is: worn by a Mebuli, in the inventory or on the marketplace. For the marketplace's own stock it says House offer.
If the piece is on the marketplace, the preview has a View offer button. It takes you straight to that offer, even if your filters would currently hide it. That way you can recommend an offer to a friend even though it is not yours.

If a message contains more than two codes or the same code twice, it cannot be sent. The reason is shown below the input.
What others see
Whoever clicks your chip sees the stats of the piece and your name as the owner. They do not see the rest of your inventory. A code cannot be guessed: there are more than 28 million possible codes, and lookups are limited.
